'A Peculiar Symmetry' is a beautifully written thriller. The author did a superb job balancing the quick pace with well-drawn characters. I found Aiden and Minnie to be surprisingly relatable as they get caught up in a 'Spy vs Spy' world. The author clearly did her research and both government and rogue agencies feel very authentic. This novel was a joy to read and I look forward to re-reading it again soon.
I liked everything about this book: fine writing, an exciting plot with unexpected twists and turns and engaging, remarkable protagonists.
Tanah Haney's writing flows beautifully. She has crafted a storyline that draws the reader into a believable only slightly-altered reality of high-stakes secret organisations whose plots flow around the central characters in a bewildering fast-paced sequence of events. If you are a reader who likes to end the book feeling like you really understand everything that happened, this book may not be for you. But really, when characters are being attacked, kidnapped, and having their worlds turned upside-down, does it make sense for everything to be clearly and neatly laid out and wrapped up?Haney's own neurodiversity helps her give us a lens into the world of the protagonist Aiden, who is neurodiverse in ways that are more common than many of us probably realise, although she is extreme in several of her exceptionalities. The book is exceptionally well-crafted. Haney is a writer to follow!
